In the Field of Skirts, Photography series, 2025

This series of photographs explores how femininity can be staged and narrated through the body, costume, and environment. Taking inspiration from Pre-Raphaelite and historical paintings, the work uses floral settings, light, and gesture to create composed scenes that embody the feeling of paintings.
Yadanar is photographed within nature, wearing clothing that references historical and baroque aesthetics, contrasted with contemporary elements such as tattoos, piercings, and floral Doc Martens. Alongside this, I appear within the same landscape, wearing a ruffled dress and symbolic elements signifying rebirth and renewal.
The connections between historical reference and contemporary identity are a central theme of the work. The work forms part of a wider exploration that informs my painting practice.
